Doha, Qatar, May 2016: ASTAD participated in the fifth Cityscape Qatar exhibition to showcase its diverse project portfolio and wide range of services, while demonstrating its expertise within the construction industry. Under the Patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior for the State of Qatar, Cityscape Qatar 2016 was officially inaugurated by His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammad Al Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce, on the 26th of April 2016 in Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The three-day event, brought together industry leaders spanning government representatives, project owners, developers, consultants and financiers to engage in a dynamic environment that gives an insight into the future of Qatari and global real estate.

ASTAD Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Ali Al-Khalifa, contributed to the exhibition through a panel in which he discussed the impact of Qatar's infrastructure spending stating: "Qatar will see further economic and population growth due mainly to the urban development and large-scale investment projects, and despite the recent oil price drop, it will continue to do so as many infrastructure and building projects have become a national priority." He articulated that the current low oil prices can be seen as an opportunity for organizations to take a step back and re-evaluate projects, ensuring the best value for money, which will only further enhance the drive to support more local and sustainable solutions and support the development of a growing private sector, steadily transforming and diversifying Qatar's economy.

Al-Khalifa highlighted ASTAD's involvement and commitment to the diversification of the Qatar Economy away from hydro carbons stating that economic and environmental development were the two key areas that were particularly pertinent to ASTAD. "We are committed to managing the successful delivery of complex projects within Qatar in various sectors including health, culture, sports, education, and transport; bringing together all the necessary components that are essential for the country’s sustainable development." Over the past few decades Qatar’s transformation into a highly diversified and advanced knowledge-based economy has led to unimaginable successes in a very short space of time.

ASTAD Consult General Manager, Fahad Al Jahrami, participated in the event by delivering a presentation entitled 'Integrated Delivery of Mixed Use Destination'. His presentation highlighted case studies on integrated suites of large scale destinations in which he focussed on two mega projects within Qatar; Education City and Manateq Special Economic Zones. He elaborated on the dynamic engagement of stakeholders throughout the management of such projects and further explained the fundamentals to future proof a master plan, which ensures project sustainability.

With all of the building and infrastructure plans for Qatar’s future ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the Qatar National Vision 2030, ASTAD remains determined to continuously promote best practice and support Qatar's on-going progression.
