Qatar Rail hosts Awareness Day introducing local companies to Doha Metro Project
Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) is hosting an Industry Awareness conference to introduce companies specializing in architectural and electro-mechanical engineering to the works at the Doha Metro Project.
The conference, set to be held at La Cigale Hotel - Al Wajba hall from 8.30 am to 12pm tomorrow 5th of November, will be attended by more than 200 interested companies. Over 500 people are expected to join the event while Qatar Rail will keep the door open to registrations from 8:30 to 9:00 am tomorrow, right before the event begins.
The awareness day is likely to witness a lively discussion on the occupational and management aspects of this pioneering project with suppliers, consultants and contractors, as well as the companies with the potential to cooperate with in the future. The presentation will include an explanation and description of the sub-contracting tenders for Doha Metro.
The tenders include Mechanical and Electrical (MEP) Subcontracts, in addition to Architectural finishes Subcontracts including Interior fit outs for stations, Provision of Entrance Structures to Stations and Elevated Station Shelters. In this regard, Managing Director and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Qatar Rail, Eng.
Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie, commented: “The organization of this awareness day comes as part of Qatar Rail’s proactive strategy to enhance the role and contribution of current contractors to Qatar Rail’s projects and give them the opportunity to be part of the company’s works. We are looking forward to the wide participation and the interactive debates expected on this event, and we wish to attract the attention of the best expertise in the field to work with us”.
The phase one of the Doha Metro consists of 8 major Design and Build Civil contracts with total value of approximately QAR 45 Billion, each of which will require the appointment of large-scale multidiscipline MEP subcontractors and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and large-scale high quality Architectural Works subcontractors. The Doha Metro will be an integral part of the Qatar Rail projects along with the company’s Lusail Light Rail Transit (LRT) Network and the Long Distance Passenger and Freight Rail. Consisting of 4 lines, the Metro network will cover the Greater Doha area and will include connections to town centers and vital commercial and residential areas throughout the city. In central Doha, the Metro will be underground, whilst at the outskirts; it will mainly be at ground level or elevated.
Qatar Rail has so far awarded multi-billion dollar contracts for worldwide companies that embarked in the works of the aspired world-class rail network and efficient public transportation system which will provide an attractive and competitive alternative to private transport, capable of achieving a significant modal share.
